What is Spam?

Unsolicited Commercial E-mail, commonly known as SPAM, are e-mail messages sent to a large number of recipients that have not been specifically requested. In many cases they are advertisements for products or web sites but at the worst can be pornographic or fraudulent in nature.

Current estimates state that there are 90 billion SPAM messages being sent per day, which makes up around 85% of e-mail traffic. They will often originate from devices which have been badly configured, or hijacked through worms or viruses.
